Mostly Craters of the Moon

Idaho is a gem. It’s nickname is literally the Gem State. Most people don’t know this, but Idaho is not actually a giant potato farm. The northern part of the state is very alpine, see last year’s post on Coeur d’Alene for examples. The southern part of the state is volcano weirdness, in fact the southeaster corner of the state is literally Yellowstone NP. Craters of the Moon National Monument is vast ocean of lava flows, leaving all kinds of strange landscape features like lava tubes and cinder cones. It’s strange driving up to it because you’re basically in a desert and suddenly everything turns black. I definitely recommend a visit. Afterwards we spent a day in Missoula, MT before seeing a concert.
