There are hundreds of hundred million dollar mansions dotting the coast, but you can&#8217;t even see them from the 101 because the landscape is so jagged and dynamic.  I wanted to stay in Big Sur, but you can&#8217;t get there in an RV the size of mine, so you have to stay in one of the nearby cities which are about an hour away.  I chose Monterey because I&#8217;m a Steinbeck fan and I had heard a lot about the aquarium.  It was great, we were staying at the Monterey Fair Grounds where Monterey Pop and the Monterey Jazz Festival take place.  Jimi Hendrix smashed his guitar like 100 yards from where we were parked.  Anyways, Big Sur is beautiful, I could spend a year there just exploring.
