Everything in the west kept catching on fire, so we decided to book it east. We hit up Tucson very briefly last year and liked it, so we decided to spend some more time there. I love Saguaro National Park and I got to see it during a storm, which is pretty rare considering it’s the middle of the Sonora Desert. Tucson has the longest city bike trail in the US, over 130 miles. You can go all over the city on your bike without ever getting on a road or sidewalk, and there’s really cool art all along the way. Eating in Tucson was a delight; it’s the birthplace of the beloved chimichanga! Also, they have a traditional way of preparing beef called carne seca that is essentially beef jerky that’s re-hydrated in salsa. In addition to that, we were near a bakery that was a contender for a James Beard award. There was also a huge gem and mineral show while we were there. Even though we are literally in the worst possible position to buy rocks, we did it anyways. So Tucson 10\/10. No notes. On the way in we stayed at an alpaca farm, which was cute. On the way out we stayed at White Sands national park, which was surreal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
