Eastport and Lubec

Decided to take a cruise up the coast of Maine and ended up staying at a really nice RV park in Eastport. We saw a large gathering of people with drums and dancing, so we decided to check it out and it was a pow wow/gathering called Sipayik Pasamaquoddy Days. We shopped and ate some snacks and watched the dancers, then they invited us to their cafeteria for the traditional feast. It was like beans with no seasoning, bean soup with no seasoning and some kind of unknown meat that looked like red meat but tasted fishy. I asked a guy what it was and he said it was the cow of the sea. 10/10 activities 1/10 food. It was still really fun. We also went on a whale watching tour and saw the largest whirl pool in the northern hemisphere. It’s called ‘Old Sow’ because sailors said it sounded like pigs squealing, which is terrifying. Also saw a lighthouse that was the first structure that George Washington approved when he became president. Also a brewery in Lubec poisoned me.

Interesting story about this guy. This was placed here by CBS when they filmed a reality tv show here in 2000 to make the little seaport town look more like a seaport I guess. It aired in 2001 and the guy who ended up winning the show was a NYC firefighter who died in one of the towers on 9/11. The people of Eastport asked the network to leave the statue and now it’s dedicated to the victims of 9/11.
